Ylläs Is A Wonderful Place To Visit Winter Or Summer

Äkäslompolo is a traditional resort nestled in stunning woodland at the base of the Ylläs fell. It is surrounded by seven fells, Ylläs being the biggest, then Kesanki, Lainio, Kulaas, Kuer, Pyhatanturi and Aakenus.

In Winter the Ylläs 718 fell boasts the longest downhill run in Finland. There are 69 runs of which 28 are flood lit, generally the runs are wide and uncrowded. The lifts are T-bar and button pulls on the lower slopes. There is a chair lift on the Äkäslompolo or northern side and a gondola for the Ylläsjarvi or southern side.

Cross Country Skiing - If you fancy giving cross country skiing a go, there are 320km of groomed tracks in and around Ylläs, of which 38km are flood lit. There are also various cafes on route. A trek out to Velhon Kota is well worth the effort.

Multi Purpose Tracks - There is now a second set of marked tracks, these are for fat bikes, snow shoes or just plain old fashioned walking in the snow on prepared tracks. This means everyone can get to the quaint ski cafes dotted around the forest.

Summer and Autumn - In the summer and autumn time all the tracks turn into trekking and mountain bike routes. The scenery is wonderful and you will often encounter reindeer on your travels. There is also a frizby golf course laid out just after the Ylläskaltio Hotel.

In the village there are a handful of restaurants/bars/cafes, a well stocked supermarket, pharmacy, off-licence, art gallery, souvenir shops and sports shops.
